Defend your tabletop RPG character sheet from invading pixel enemies. Find matches in your tray of dice to power attacks to clear the evil from your shelf full of campaign books. Frantic match-3 RPG puzzle meets action-strategy tower defence. Sort of. Not a relaxing game.
It's late at night in your 80’s bedroom, and a weird energy fills the air, making your “G64” computer flicker oddly. Brushing it off, you roll up a character sheet for the tabletop roleplaying games on your shelf. Before you finish, dark portals appear on your desk and little pixel creatures cross over into our world! Defend your character through the stages of each campaign book - whether it’s all in your head or not.
CrossOver takes some classic concepts from traditionally “casual” genres (Match 3 and Tower Defence) and crosses them into a new and eccentric challenge with Action, Strategy, RPG and Puzzle elements. Featuring over 100 levels in fantasy and sci-fi settings, extra game modes, and uniquely asymmetrical Co-op (one player controlling the dice and the other handling the attacks), CrossOver is... let's face it, it's bloody weird. Good thing there's a demo, right?
Each campaign includes:
If you're overwhelmed by the game's unrelenting pace, try the Casual Mode. When toggled on, Casual Mode reduces the damage dealt by enemies to a selectable percentage (even 0%), allowing players to focus more on chill enjoyment than frantic survival - without needing to pause all the time to catch a breath. Additionally, Deterrents (which act as a pseudo time limit) are disabled, enabling you to grind at your leisure for gold and experience points before finishing a stage. Casual Mode is only for solo campaign play and can be toggled on or off at any point without needing to restart a campaign.
Casual Mode ensures that "CrossOver: Roll For Initiative" remains accessible and enjoyable for all types of players. It's still weird, though.
