Octopus Goulash is not a videogame. It is a living organism. Your choices will shape its life.
Enter an urban simulation set in a synthetic and decaying world where reality is slowly slipping into vast datacenters. Explore the last city on Earth, live all possible lives, and find your path toward the Question.
Octopus Goulash is a holistic open world.
A dynamically generated city with a consistent population interconnected with the surrounding world.
POPULATIONEvery character in the city is procedurally generated at software startup.
Each operator has their own personality, job, and relationships.
During gameplay, every NPC will live their own life between work, home, and entertainment.
Relationships are very important in OG.
Although you are in a world where human relationships have been deprecated, interacting with other inhabitants can prove extremely useful.
Through the communication system you can talk to other operators, discover their point of view on certain topics, sell or gift items, or even insult or act aggressively.
Every NPC will remember your interactions and will act accordingly.
Your means of movement inside Hub38 is the body avatar.
A fully mechanized body housing the only organic organ you have left: the brain.
During your stay you will need to integrate nutrients, sleep, and reduce stress.
The city will come to your aid with countless facilities ready to satisfy your needs. But everything comes at a price.
Hub38 is a varied world in decline.
A massive block of cement and silicon rising above a dead Earth.
Even the seas that once drowned the ruins of past civilizations are disappearing.
A city that expands in every direction.
Gigantic clusters of housing structures, suburbs, and enormous datacenters.
Exploration is crucial to uncover lore and mysteries. Some inhabitants may hint at interesting places.
Your character is linked to your car.
Flying cars are the means by which you can travel in a city without streets.
Although reliable, maintenance, upgrades, and refueling will make your life easier.
In OG you can purchase almost anything: nutrients, car accessories, software, furniture, and illegal goods (if you know the right people).
The Credit is the currency. It will allow you to buy items, services, cars, and even a cozy apartment near your favorite club.
There are many ways to earn Credits.
Fixers are the most popular job, but there are other, more or less legal ways, to scrape some extra Credits.
In the worst case, you can beg.
(In the next update it will also be possible to work in law enforcement.)
In this simulation it is not the story that seeks the player, it is the player that seeks the story.
Meanwhile, iterations follow one another and the system sustains itself.
Deep within the city lies something that craves to be seen.
There are no quests that lead you to the ending. Only doors and keys.
It is up to you to understand what to do with them. “Answers will reveal themselves to those who know how to seek.”
Obviously, there are multiple paths available. I aimed to leave maximum freedom.
I reserve a small paragraph for the developer.
A genius madman who spent almost four years crafting and developing this experimental media.
The game was developed on a shoestring budget.
Almost everything you will see was crafted or reworked by the same mouse and keyboard.
Buildings, dialogues, music, story, and design all come from here.
I would like to point out that you will also find many free assets and gifts from friends, without which reaching this point would have been impossible.
Octopus Goulash is an independent work developed by one single developer. Be understanding.
That is all.
Safe travels.
And thank you to those who share: you make the world better.
